Authorial vision
Wolney Oliveira’s films draw on his interest in history and popular culture to recover experiences that have not always found a place in the collective memory. His films focus on characters and communities affected by historical events, revealing little-known perspectives and questioning who has the right to tell the story.
Moving between documentary and fiction, Oliveira explores different ways of reconstructing the past, bringing together historical research, memory, and human experience. His approach is not limited to recording events: he seeks to restore presence and complexity to people whose stories have been silenced or forgotten. The culture of Ceará and its popular traditions are a recurring theme in his work, connecting local stories to broader questions of memory, recognition, and representation.
