Authorial vision
Viviane Ferreira’s films draw on diverse Black experiences to construct narratives that transcend singular or stereotypical representations. Ancestry, memory, and intergenerational relationships feature in stories in which everyday gestures, encounters, and emotional bonds take on narrative significance.
Her directing style is also characterized by freedom in narrative organization: rather than always following a linear, explanatory structure, she allows characters, images, and references to gradually build meaning. This approach aligns with her understanding of Black cinema as a field of multiple aesthetic possibilities, as diverse as the experiences she seeks to represent.
